U.S. Customs and Border Protection is opening a new NEXUS Enrollment Center in Calais, Maine. Effective Tuesday October 27, the hours of operation will be 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The NEXUS program allows pre-screened, low risk travelers to be processed with less delay by United States and Canadian officials at designated highway lanes at high volume border crossing locations. Approved applicants are issued a photo identification/proximity card. Participants will present their NEXUS card and make a declaration. They are then released, unless chosen for a more stringent inspection.
To participate, both the United States and Canada must approve an individual’s application. Denial of an application by either country will keep an individual from participating in the NEXUS program. NEXUS is a binational program and applicants need to complete only a single application form. This form can be filled out on-line, mailed or faxed. Qualified applications are required to come to a NEXUS Enrollment Center only once for an interview.
The NEXUS Enrollment Center is located at 3 Customs St., Calais, Maine 04619. Please call (207)-454-3621 EXT. 232 to schedule an appointment. For more information you can visit the CBP Web site.
