Recently I have been to Baltimore District Office to collect my interim EAD, I was told that if INS Processing Center(Vermont) requested some additional documentation, that requested documentation should be sent to Vermont(that information should be updated in INS database), then only they can issue interim EAD. They are taking 30 days to issue Interim EAD.
There is no need to get there early. Try to be there around 9 and they'll give you a ticket. If you are lucky, you'll have your picture taken after a small wait otherwise you'll have to wait for 4 to 6 hours before you get your card. The good news is you'll get without any problems with the exception of the long waiting time.
I filed for a routime renewal of my EAD with AOS pending at the NSC, the case was transfered to Denver district office. AFter 3.5 months I went to get an interim EAD which was not granted because their records supposedly showed that the EAD was approved. Waited few more weeks went back again, same story. Bottomline is nether an interim EAD nor did theactual EAD ever show as approved online or ever got to me.
I dont know what to do next.
I walked in to the Detroit USCIS Center on Monday Sept 9th 2003 at 11:30pm. They gave me the waiting number & gave me an application form for Employment Authorization. At around 3:00 pm the duty officer wanted receipt notices (over 90-day proof), the original I-765 application, I-94 & driving licence (proof of picture ID). She asked me to get photo copies of each of these documents, which I got it immediately for her. After an hour someone called my name and took my picture and provided the card good for 6 months.
Went to the Local Office at 1.30 PM. Got the call after 2 hours and 30 minutes wait and they asked for the old EAD, New I 765 Form and the I485 Reciept. It took 15 min to finish the process of getting the iEAD. It was a good experience and the staff were quite helpful.

Went to SFO office for interim EAD. My 140 and 485 were pending beyond 90 days. The officer refused saying 140 is "on hold". No additional reason was provided. It's 6 months since filing and there has been no RFE.
I had my interview in downtown L.A and my experience was extremely pleasant. There was a parking structure right in front of the federal building that charged 13.20 for all day parking. My interview was on November 17th, 2008 at 2:15 pm and I left 2 hours earlier than usual. Good thing because there was a very long line into the federal building itself .It took me 30 minutes before I got to security point. So it was until 2:00 pm when I was able to get into the building.
