As of August 28, 2009, approximately 45,100 H-1B cap-subject petitions and approximately 20,000 petitions qualifying for the advanced degree cap exemption had been filed. USCIS will continue to accept both cap-subject petitions and advanced degree petitions until a sufficient number of H-1B petitions have been received to reach the statutory limits, taking into account the fact that some of these petitions may be denied, revoked, or withdrawn.

I received my H-1B visa in September 2022 and worked at my company’s Scottsdale, Arizona office until March 2024. Since then, I have been working remotely from India for the same company and role. My H-1B visa is set to expire in September 2025.

I have a few questions regarding the extension process:

1. Does my employer need me physically in the U.S. to apply for my H1B extension?

2. If yes, what alternatives are available for my employer to apply while I am abroad?

3. Given that my visa expires in September 2025, when should I start the extension process at the latest?

No, your employer does not need you to be physically in the U.S. to apply for your H-1B extension. You can start the extension process up to six months before your H-1B expires, which means you can apply as early as March 2024 for a September 2025 expiration.

USCIS Updates Guidance on Untimely Filed Extension of Stay and Change of Status Requests

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services today announced an update to its Policy Manual providing that USCIS, in discretion and under certain conditions, may excuse a nonimmigrant’s failure to timely file an extension of stay or change of status request if the delay was due to extraordinary circumstances beyond the control of the applicant or petitioner.

Stayed at HolidayInn rented a car , got the scottia bank deposit slip from a near by bank. 
Morning 9:55 AM eached embassay, interview was at 10:00,Security checked my confirmation letter and asked me to go to cashier window , cahier window person was realy sweet and was joking all the way. Asked 1) what visa am i applying for ?- H1b 2) what is my status in canada - Tourism - visitor visa , took the scotiia bank slip and gave me a number

Having benefited a lot by reading all the posts here, just want to share my experience to benefit others.

Background: 
• Haven’t been back home for over 10 years since first entry to the States.
• Status: J-1 -> F-1 -> H1 -> F-1 -> H-1
• Canadian PR 

Scheduled the appointment in Toronto with the new system (I think it is much easier to book appointment now than the older system).

Drove to Toronto 2 days before the appointment

In the morning of appointment:
